From the founder
At my grandparents' house in Nagasaki, my grandmother changed the flowers by the front door every week. She always chose what was in season, so even inside the house you could tell what time of year it was.
The tree that shows me the seasons most clearly is the cherry. I have walked under cherry trees in parks all my life: as a child with my parents, with friends in my school years, on dates at university, and now with my own children. In spring it is all blossom, in summer it is green, in autumn its leaves cover the paths, and in winter there is snow on the bare branches.
At home we change the decorations for Children's Day, the Doll Festival, Halloween and Christmas, and my children get excited every time. But our house plants look the same all year, and it is hard to feel the seasons indoors.
So I made one garden: a cherry tree, a stone path and a pond, the way I remember them from those parks. The path and the pond change along with the tree. When the season turns outside, take down one set and hang the next. I hope that small job becomes a quiet moment to notice how the year is moving.
